The Shop

Chambers Street Wines sits on a quiet corner in TriBeCa, at 148 Chambers Street. It is one of New York’s most important independent wine shops — a place where the staff’s knowledge runs genuinely deep and the selection reflects conviction rather than trend-chasing.

What Makes It Special

The grower champagne selection alone is worth the visit. Producers like Champagne Ponson, Vouette & Sorbée, and dozens of small-production vignerons are represented here with a depth that few shops in the country can match. Chambers Street was among the first American retailers to take grower champagne seriously, long before it became fashionable.

Beyond champagne, the shop is known for natural wine, small-production European estates, and a curated but never precious approach to wine retail. Their online articles — praised by Jancis Robinson as some of the most insightful wine writing available — reflect the same seriousness.

Our Connection

We shop at Chambers Street regularly. The Champagne Ponson Blanc de Blancs 2018 Extra Brut that prompted our first musings post was purchased here. It is one of those rare shops where you can walk in with a vague idea and walk out with something genuinely surprising.
