Domaine de l'Alezan is a natural wine estate in the Northern Ardèche founded in 2013 by Patricia and Rémi Bonneton. The name comes from the chestnut coat color of their two Comtois draft mares, Suspens and Palynka, who are essential to working the vineyards. The couple cultivates 2.5 hectares of steep, non-mechanizable hillside parcels in Tournon-sur-Rhône and Étables, along the Doux Valley — a tributary of the Rhône descending from the Massif Central. All vineyard work is done by hand and on horseback, with no tractors on the property. In 2017 they launched La Tangente, a négociant label sourcing grapes from fellow natural vignerons across France.

Winemaking Philosophy

Patricia and Rémi practice fully natural viticulture and winemaking with zero compromise. No pesticides, no synthetic treatments, no oenological inputs, no SO2 — ever. The vines are worked entirely by hand with their two Comtois mares; the soil is tended with a pickaxe or horse-drawn tools. There are no tractors on the estate. In the cellar, they follow a hands-off approach: native yeast fermentation, no fining, no filtration, no additives of any kind. Wines age in a mix of old wood, demi-muids, ancient foudres, and Spanish tinajas (amphoras). They deliberately chose not to join the Saint-Joseph appellation, feeling its criteria are not strict enough for their standards.
