About this wine

Fattoria di Bagnolo is a 15th-century estate in Impruneta, twenty minutes south of Florence, in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini sub-zone of Tuscany. The villa belonged to the Machiavelli family from 1458 to 1585 and has sat with the Bartolini Baldelli family since around 1800. The estate runs 10 hectares of vineyard, planted predominantly to Sangiovese with smaller plots of Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva 2019 is the cellar's premium Sangiovese-led bottling, aged longer than the entry-level Chianti to meet the Riserva category requirements. Classic Florentine register: red-cherry and tobacco, firm acidity, the savoury, slightly bitter finish that distinguishes Sangiovese from Tuscany's hills around the city. 12% alcohol.

Winemaking

Sangiovese-led blend, with traditional small additions of estate-grown Tuscan varieties. Aged in used barrel to meet the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva category requirements (minimum 24 months ageing).

Soil
Chianti Colli Fiorentini hills around Impruneta, just south of Florence: galestro and alberese (clay-marl and limestone) typical of the sub-zone.
