The Event

Marunouchi Japanese Wine Weeks is an annual festival running for roughly two weeks each summer, organized through the Marunouchi business-district association in coordination with major Japanese wine producers, restaurants, and wine retailers. The event has run annually since the late 2010s and has become the year’s anchor Tokyo Japanese-wine event.

How It Works

During the festival period:

  • Restaurants in Marunouchi and surrounding districts feature curated Japanese-wine pairing menus
  • Wine shops highlight Japanese-producer features and run special tastings
  • Tasting events are held in central event spaces, with multiple producers pouring directly
  • Producer talks and seminars run in Marunouchi event venues

The format makes it possible for a Tokyo drinker to encounter dozens of producers across a couple of evenings — a structurally similar setup to Bordeaux’s en primeur week or Burgundy’s Hospices de Beaune weekend, but with a Japanese-wine specific orientation.

Participating Producers

Most major Japanese wine producers participate. The roster typically includes:

Why It Matters

Marunouchi Japanese Wine Weeks is the year’s clearest opportunity for a Tokyo wine drinker — sommelier, retailer, journalist, or enthusiast — to encounter the breadth of the country’s wine industry in person. The event has become a structural pillar of Tokyo wine culture and an important annual moment for producers building Tokyo distribution and visibility.
