The Village

Aÿ (often written Ay) sits at the eastern end of the Vallée de la Marne, just south of Épernay. Its south-facing slopes and chalky-clay soils produce some of Champagne's most celebrated Pinot Noir — wines of genuine power, depth, and longevity.

Grand Cru Status

Aÿ is one of Champagne's 17 Grand Cru villages, meaning its grapes historically commanded 100% of the reference price. Unlike most Champagne Grand Cru villages, which are known primarily for either Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, Aÿ has a long tradition with both — though Pinot Noir is its signature.

Notable Producers

Romain Henin farms Grand Cru vines across Aÿ as the primary terroir in his portfolio. The estate of Henri Giraud (where Henin trained) is also based here.
