Le Picatier
Loire, Auvergne, France
After earning their BTS diplomas and working in conventional farming, Christophe and Géraldine ventured into biodynamics following a decisive meeting with Dominique Derain in Pommard. They spent two years searching for an estate to take over and were captivated in 2007 by Domaine du Picatier in Saint-Haôn le Vieux, Loire, surrounded by vineyards with various grape varieties. They also established a rural guesthouse, which opened in 2010. Domaine du Picatier, at an altitude of 400m on the western slope of the Loire Valley, is sheltered from the winds by the peaks of the Madeleine Mountains. Christophe is passionate about soil health focusing on biodiversity in the topsoil, enhancing overall soil microbiology. Their Gamay wines are open, aromatic, alluring, and vibrant, reflecting excellent farming practices, loose sandy granitic soils.
